At Exhall Cedars our children are at the heart of everything that we do.

The Zones of Regulation

At Cedars we recognise the importance of giving our children the tools to self-regulation. We support every child to explore and find their own self-regulation strategies. We do this through a series of lessons called The Zones of Regulation. The language used is progressive from Pre School through to Year 2.

Children are taught to recognise and label different emotions. They are taught that it is normal to feel different emotions and that feelings are something that everyone experiences.

Each of our classrooms have their own Safe Space. A small cosy covered area for the children to visit if they need some time.

Pupils are also able to visit Teddy if they need some time out of the classroom to help to regulate their emotions.

Each class has a range of Sensory resources that they are able to access, when needed, throughout the school day.

Protective Behaviours

At Exhall Cedars we follow the Warwickshire Protective Behaviours program. We recognise the importance to give children the power to make a disclosure of abuse if they need to. Children are taught the correct vocabulary for their body parts including their private body parts. This vital learning is revisited every term.

We deliver an inclusive and age appropriate Relationships and Sex Education curriculum. In school we use a large selection of books to support this learning.
