Phonics Workshop in preparation for Phonics Screening
for Year 1 and some Year 2 children
Every year, ALL YEAR 1 children across the country, in every school, are screened in the summer term, to assess their phonic decoding ability.
Children who achieve the phonic screening target in Year One are far more likely to be competent readers and therefore are also more likely to achieve well academically in school.
We held a Parent Information meeting in the hall with information on how parents can support children at home, to help them to meet the expected standard. This was followed by some practical activities in the classrooms.
We had lots of parents/carers attend and some great feedback for the session.
