History

At Exhall Cedars we encourage all children to be historians, to show curiosity and learn about the past through first hand experiences, handling artefacts and using technology. Children will develop a sound understanding of their local history in Bedworth and Coventry as well as learning about their wider surroundings. Children will not only learn about historical events but also begin to understand how their personal family shapes their own history and know where people and events fit within a chronological framework.

As part of the national Curriculum, pupils are taught about:

  • Changes within living memory- including aspects of change in national life.
  • Events beyond living memory that are significant nationally or globally
  • The lives of significant individuals in the past who have contributed to national and international achievements.
  • Significant historical events, people and places in their locality.

Pre-school and Nursery foster positive ideas and attitudes practically through using the EYFS development matters statements and exemplary information.

As part of our cultural capital, children have opportunities to join in with celebrations such as Remembrance Day and The Platinum Jubilee by dressing up and taking part in activities such as laying wreaths by the cenotaph. Children also visit our local church where they can hear about first hand experiences of people that have lived through the war and listen to a service to remember those we have lost.
